The Italian Mobile Market - Second Semester of 2006
The Italian mobile market is one of the most dynamic and innovative markets.
There are more than 75 million mobile lines in Italy, a country with a population of 58 million, being the mobile penetration of 130%.
The market is composed of four players, TIM, 3 Italia, Vodafone Italia and Wind.
TIM
Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) is the leader operator with a market share of 40% with 30,4 million costumers (source: Telecom Italia Group first half 2006 report). TIM has 88% of prepaid costumers and 22% of contract costumers.
3 Italia
The 3 Italia is a 3G mobile operator that has 9% of the Italian mobile market share with 6,8 million(source: Hutchison Whampoa Limited 2006 interim report). 3 Italia deployed a DVB-H network to provide mobile TV to it's costumers having 14.500 costumers at 23 of August 2006.
Vodafone Italia
Vodafone Italia has a market share of 32% with 24,1 million costumers being 92% prepaid and 8% contract.
Wind
Wind has a market share of 19% with 14 million mobile costumers being 83% 2G costumers and 17% 3G costumers (this values were derived from the number of 2G and 3G RBS, i.e. BTS's and Node B's).
